Extension Under Construction
Q: Do I need to prepare the site before the build begins?
A: Yes, ensuring the site is cleared and accessible is crucial to starting the groundwork, whether it’s levelling the area, removing debris, or preparing foundations. If you need help with clearance, we offer a full site preparation service, including the removal of sheds, trees, or other obstacles, so the construction can begin smoothly.
Q: Does Sussex Bespoke Garden Rooms offer a site survey before installation?
A: Absolutely! We offer a free site survey where our project manager will assess your space, discuss your project requirements, and provide you with an estimate. This ensures that your project is both feasible and aligned with your vision.
Q: How long does it take to complete a garden room?
A: The timeline for a project depends on its complexity, size and specification. Typically, a standard garden space can take between 4 to 6 weeks to complete. In addition, the time of year and the ‘Great’ British weather can cause delays.
Q: Do you use subcontractors for the work?
A: Yes, we do. We have a close-knit team of local tradesmen who handle certain aspects of your project overseen by the Project Manager. This allows us to maintain clear communication throughout the process and ensure the highest quality of workmanship.
Bathroom Installation
Garden Room Features & Customisation
Q: Can I have a toilet or bathroom installed in my garden room?
A: Yes, we can integrate plumbing into your garden room, including toilets, showers, or even full bathrooms. Many of our customers choose this option for home offices or guest rooms. We’ll work with you to make sure the plumbing and electrical services fit your requirements.
Q: What can I use my garden room for?
A: Our garden rooms are incredibly versatile and can be tailored to suit your needs. They can be used as home offices, gyms, yoga studios, music rooms, entertainment spaces, or even guest accommodations. If you can dream it, we can build it!
Q: Are the garden rooms insulated?
A: Yes, all our garden rooms are fully insulated using high-quality materials, ensuring they are comfortable to use year-round, no matter the weather.
Q: Will the garden room have electricity?
A: Yes, we can install full electrical systems in your garden room, including sockets, lighting, and even underfloor heating if needed. This ensures that your garden room is fully functional, just like any room inside your home.

Size, Planning Permission & Regulations
Q: What size garden rooms can you build?
A: All our garden rooms are bespoke and can be built in various sizes to suit your outdoor space. Whether you have a small garden or a larger area, we’ll work with you to design something that fits perfectly.
Q: Do I need planning permission for a garden room?
A: In most cases, garden rooms fall under Permitted Development rights, meaning you won’t need planning permission if the structure meets certain criteria. For example:
- The building must be single-storey, with a maximum height of 2.5m if within 2m of a boundary.
- It should not cover more than 50% of the garden area.
- The room cannot be used as a separate dwelling.
For more detailed information, you can check the UK Government’s guidelines on Permitted Development Rights or speak with us for advice specific to your property.
Q: Can my garden room be used all year round?
A: Yes! With proper insulation and heating options, our garden rooms are designed for year-round use. Whether it’s a hot summer day or a chilly winter evening, your garden room will remain comfortable.
Q: Do I need planning permission for an extension?
A: Similar to garden rooms, many extensions can be built under Permitted Development rights if they meet certain criteria, such as height and distance from property boundaries. However, larger or more complex projects may require planning permission. We can assist you in navigating the process and ensuring compliance.
